WRESTLING: Wrestling practice starts this week at Petaluma High School daily from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. You must first have your athletic clearance packet turned in to Mrs. Dee in the main office. After your paperwork is turned in you must go back and see Mrs. Dee again to get two papers that you must give to the wrestling coaches before you can participate.

RECRUITING DANCERS: The "Las Golondrinas" dance troupe will be starting on Tuesday, February 7th at 3pm in the multi. Practice will go until 4:30pm. Bring your dance shoes, and if you have any questions see Ms. Dee in the office.

BOYS BASKETBALL: The 8th grade boys basketball team will play a tournament at LJ in Rohnert Park on Friday February 3rd at 7:15 and Saturday the 4th at 11:30 and 5:15. Basketball players: be sure to get there at least 30 minutes early. Also the 7th grade team will play at LJ on Saturday February 4th at 2:45 pm. Check with Coach Erbst for details.

LIBRARY: The library will be closed at break today. It will still be open at lunch and the rest of the day. In the series, “song of the Lioness,” Alanna is an ambitious girl who is not satisfied with the life she will live as a woman. Instead, her ambition is to be a knight and she disguises herself as a boy to become one. The book, “A Room Made of Windows” is about an ambitious girl who observes the people around her because she wants to be a writer.

CHARACTER TRAIT: Perseverance continues as our character trait. Many people we admire today demonstrated perseverance, or continuing to work towards a goal. Did you know that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had to send the first Harry Potter manuscript to twelve publishers before one accepted it? What if Barack Obama had given up his goal of running for president because someone told him that our country was not ready for an African-American to become president, or when Hillary Clinton was far ahead of him in the polls? Obama’s perseverance helped him achieve his goal. When you have a big school project, you need perseverance to complete it.

If you are interested in going, fill out a form in the counseling office and you might get selected!

OVERDUE BOOKS & FINES: 129 students currently have overdue books or fines. Some of these students and their parents received overdue notices by email. If you checked out a book before September 8 and haven't renewed it, it is overdue. Check the due date you stamped on your book. CHARACTER TRAIT: Every three weeks, we will be learning about a new character trait. Responsible is our character trait this week. Ten years ago, on September 11, 2001, many firefighters, police officers and ordinary citizens died or injured themselves that day because they felt responsible for saving people trapped in the burning buildings. When you, as a student, act responsibly, you do what you are supposed to do such as homework, chores and following your parents' rules.

WASHINGTON D.C.: Every year, Mr. Lamansky leads out 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. This year's trip will include Washington D.C., our nation's capital, Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see how the Amish live, Hershey, Pennsylvania to ride the roller coaster at Hershey Park, and Philadelphia to see where our country was born. If you are interested in joining us on this exciting trip, there will be a meeting TODAY (Monday) at lunch in room C-1 at 12:20.
